Interactive Display

Interactive displays are flat panels with a touch layer over the glass. They replace the projector in meeting rooms, lecture halls, auditoriums and training centres. The mistake made most often here is choosing the size from the budget, then discovering that the rest of the room was never in the quote at all.

How to choose

• Price the room, not the carton. The figure on each model page is the price of a panel in a box. A finished installation also carries a mount matched to the weight and fixing pattern, transport and lifting into the hall, a source device, cabling and trunking priced by the metre, a power point behind the screen, and an hour handing the room over to the people who will use it. Leaving an item out defers the cost; it does not remove it.
• Size comes from viewing distance. Measure from the screen wall to the back row and to the front row before choosing between 65, 75 and 98 inches. Too far wastes the detail; too close makes the whole board hard to take in. A size picked from the budget alone gets both ends wrong.
• The touch layer is a decision, not a free extra. An interactive screen nobody touches is only an expensive screen. Settle whether lecturers will actually write on the glass, or whether they will only mirror a laptop — and if mirroring is all that is wanted, ask us whether a non-touch display panel is the cheaper fit for your site.
• The source device is a separate decision with a separate owner. The screen is a destination for the picture, not a source of it. Decide what feeds it — a laptop, a mini PC, or a room system — who buys it, how touch-back is routed to it, and what the wall carrying the weight is made of.
