Video Intercom
Video intercom covers door stations, indoor stations and boxed kits pairing the two under one part number. The decision most often taken wrong is scale: a kit is matched for one entrance answered at one point, so a site with a pedestrian gate as well, or a second screen upstairs, is a modular specification, not a kit extended later.
How to choose
- Entrances and answering points: count both on foot before ordering, and ask what the site looks like in two years. Both at one point to a kit. Anything else points to separate door and indoor stations chosen to work together.
- What is being opened: the intercom gives a switched contact, not a lock. Settle first whether it drives an electric strike, a magnetic lock, or the open input on a gate motor already on site. Those are three different bills of materials, and the lock supply is a separate line.
- Cable route and back box: both are settled at first fix and are the expensive half of the job. Measure the real route, not the straight line, keep buried runs in their own conduit with a draw string, and agree the box position before the wall closes.
- Who maintains the directory: with more than one household, decide at handover who adds and removes residents, and see they are shown how.
