The DS-K1T807MBFWX-QRE1 is a Hikvision Pro-series fingerprint access control terminal that also reads QR codes, and that second ability is the reason to specify it over a plain fingerprint reader. If the client only needs a stable staff list clocked in and out, a simpler terminal does that for less money.

The QR side earns its price only if somebody designs a visitor process around it, before the hardware is ordered. Four questions settle it: who may issue a code, how long the window stays open, what happens if the visitor arrives early, and who deletes the pass afterwards. Skip them and you end up with one permanent QR code taped to the gatehouse wall — and a visitor pass that never expires is the same security hole as a shared card, just tidier.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Who issues, and from where — passes are created in the management software, not on the terminal. Confirm the platform the client is standardising on, that its version supports visitor code issuing for this model, and whether reception can issue without holding rights over door configuration.
• The door itself — the terminal decides, it does not lock anything. Confirm lock type, power arrangement, exit device and the fail-safe or fail-secure behaviour the fire strategy demands.
• The path back to the server — a pass issued ten minutes before arrival is only useful if the terminal has learned about it. Confirm how the position will be powered and connected, and check with us what the door does when that link drops.

Common questions on this model

Can a QR pass be issued before the visitor arrives on site?
Yes — that is the point of this model. The code is generated in the management software and sent to the visitor ahead of time; the terminal validates it at the door.

What happens if somebody turns up an hour before their window opens?
The code will not admit them, which is correct rather than a fault. Decide at design stage whether windows are issued generously or whether a named person can reissue on the spot, not at the gate with a driver waiting.

Can we keep staff on fingerprint and use QR only for visitors?
That is the sensible split, and the reason to buy one terminal instead of two. It keeps the enrolment list to people who actually work there.
