The DS-2CD1143G2-LIU is the 4 MP fixed dome most indoor jobs in Egypt specify by default: a Hikvision 1-Series network camera that goes into a ceiling, looks at one scene and is not touched again for years. It is the camera you order twenty of at a time, not the one you argue about in a design meeting.

The LIU designation is the part worth understanding. Smart Hybrid Light means the camera carries both infrared and white-light illumination and chooses between them according to the scene rather than committing to one all night: discretion when nothing is happening, colour detail when something is. Indoors, colour is usually the evidence.

Where it earns its place on a site

It earns its place wherever the ceiling is the natural mounting plane and the scene does not change: a retail aisle, a reception desk, a lift lobby, a corridor. A fixed dome removes the two commonest after-sales calls — a bracket knocked out of alignment, and a varifocal lens somebody adjusts and never resets.

The warning worth giving has nothing to do with the camera. A dome is only ever as good as the ceiling it hangs from, and on a suspended tile the tile is the weakest component in your specification. Almost every problem with this class of camera is a ceiling problem: a tile that sags around the fixing, a plenum with no cable route, a back box nobody ordered, a mounting height chosen to suit the ladder rather than the scene.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Ceiling construction. Concrete, plasterboard on a metal grid, or lay-in suspended tile? Concrete takes a direct fixing. Plasterboard and tile do not carry a dome unaided — you need a support plate or tile bridge spanning to the grid or the slab above, and it must be on the same order or the install stalls.
• Mounting height and cable route. Set the height from what the camera must identify, not from where the ladder reaches. Confirm a route through the plenum to the nearest switch, and that the void above the tile is deep enough for the camera body and the cable bend behind it. Plenum cable and fire-stopping rules apply in most commercial buildings.
• Back box and support hardware are separate items. The back box, the pendant or wall bracket, the tile support plate and any conduit adaptor are ordered separately, and none of it is assumed to be in the carton. Tell us the ceiling type when you ask for a quote and we will list the hardware with the units.

Compatibility

It records to Hikvision NVRs and is managed through Hik-Connect and iVMS-4200, so it drops into an existing Hikvision estate without a licence conversation. On a third-party VMS, ask us to confirm the ONVIF profile from the datasheet. Common questions on this model

Can it be fitted straight into a suspended ceiling tile?
Not on the tile alone. A lay-in mineral-fibre or gypsum tile deflects around the fixing and the dome ends up crooked. Use a support plate that transfers the load to the grid or the slab above.

Does it need a back box?
That depends on whether you are surface-mounting onto a finished ceiling or recessing into a void, and on how you terminate the cable. Either way it is a separate line on the quote.

Will the white light stay on all night?
No. Smart Hybrid Light switches between infrared and white light according to the scene rather than running the white light continuously, which is what makes it usable in occupied rooms.
