The DS-2CD3621G0-IZS is a 2 MP bullet IP camera from Hikvision’s 3-Series with a motorised varifocal lens — the -IZ in the code. You set the field of view from the software, not from a screwdriver on the bracket, which is the whole reason this model exists in a projects catalogue.

Most tender sheets in Egypt still get written around megapixels. In practice, the position decides the camera long before the sensor does. A gate you are covering at 14 m, a loading lane you cannot re-aim once the racking goes in, a pole at the back of a factory yard that needs a scissor lift every time somebody touches it — those are 3-Series problems, and the 3-Series answers them with a lens you can drive remotely and a build a step above the 1-Series.

Where it earns its place on a site

Specify this one when the throw distance is awkward or uncertain. Perimeter walls where the client has not finished the fence line, long warehouse corridors, car park lanes, compound entrances — anywhere the framing will change after handover, or where you genuinely do not know the final geometry at the survey stage.

It is also the sensible call for anything mounted high or behind other trades’ work. Commissioning a fixed-lens camera on a 6 m pole means climbing it, guessing, climbing it again. With a motorised varifocal you set the zoom and focus from the NVR or from a laptop at the desk, and you do it again in six months when the client rearranges the yard, without a second visit.

2 MP with the right lens beats 4 MP pointed at the wrong place — resolution you cannot aim is resolution you do not have.

Where it is not the right choice: a fixed indoor position with a known 3 m throw does not need a motorised lens. Put the budget into a turret there, and save the varifocal for the difficult geometry.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• The actual throw distance and required scene width at each position, measured not estimated. The varifocal range covers a band, not everything — send us the distances and we will confirm from the datasheet that this model reaches them before you commit to quantities.
• Your PoE budget and switch headroom. A motorised lens draws current when it moves. Count the total load on the switch with every camera on the run, and confirm the port class this model needs for your cable length.
• Recorder compatibility and channel capacity. Check the NVR firmware supports remote lens control for this model — if you cannot drive the zoom from the recorder, you have bought a fixed lens with extra steps.

Can I adjust the zoom after installation without going back to the camera?
Yes — that is the point of the motorised lens. Zoom and focus are driven remotely, so a position that changes after handover does not mean a site visit.

Why 2 MP and not a higher-resolution model?
Because on a difficult position the lens does more for identification than the sensor does. If you need higher resolution on top of remote lens control, call 16454 and we will quote the equivalent higher-MP 3-Series body.
