The DS-2CD3161G2-LIUF is what you specify when the position has already decided the shape of the housing. It is a 6 MP mini dome from Hikvision’s 3-Series network range, with hybrid-light imaging, and it exists for the places a bullet cannot go or will not be tolerated: a lift car ceiling, an ATM lobby soffit, a shallow hotel corridor void, the tiles over a cash office counter.

None of what makes those positions difficult is about the sensor. The camera sits close to the subject and low over their head, the mounting surface is rarely one you may cut a large hole in, the void is shallower than the drawing suggested, and at head height the housing is in arm’s reach of everyone passing. A mini dome answers that by being small and self-contained. What it cannot do is give you an angle the ceiling refuses to allow.

Where it earns its place on a site

It belongs wherever the client wants a camera that disappears: retail counters, ATM lobbies, lift cars, hotel and clinic corridors, cash rooms. The 6 MP sensor matters in a specific way here — at short range you are not chasing distant detail, you are covering a small room from an awkward corner without cropping heads out of shot. But be honest with the client about the trade: in a lift car or over a counter the limiting factor is almost never resolution, it is the angle you are allowed to mount at, and no amount of megapixels buys you a better one. A mini dome fixed to the wrong part of the ceiling gives a very sharp picture of the tops of people’s heads. If the position will take a full-size housing and you want a motorised lens, work through the wider network camera range instead.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Lens variant against the mounting height: this family is sold in more than one fixed lens option, and at close range that choice decides everything. Confirm the variant you are quoting and model the coverage from the real ceiling, not a plan view.
• Cable entry and void depth: check whether the position takes a flush cut, a surface back box or side conduit entry, and whether there is depth above the ceiling to turn the cable without crushing it. This sends installers back to the van more than anything else.
• What the supplement light does in that room: hybrid light means white light as well as infrared, and in a confined reflective space such as a lift car that behaves nothing like it does outdoors. Confirm the client accepts it.

Compatibility

It records to Hikvision NVRs and is managed from the standard Hikvision desktop and mobile clients, so it drops into an existing site without a separate head end. Mixing it with a third-party recorder or VMS is a recorder-side question: check that recorder’s device list.

Common questions on this model

Can I fit this in a lift car?
Physically, yes — this is the class of camera lift cars normally take. The work is in the travelling cable and the mounting point, not the camera. Agree with the lift contractor who runs that cable before you price the position.

The ceiling void is very shallow. Will it sit flush?
That depends on the variant and the void, and it is the most common reason a mini dome order goes wrong. Call 16454 for the mounting drawing for the exact part number.

It is at head height on a counter. Is that a problem?
A dome is the right shape for a reachable position, but reachable is still reachable. If the location is exposed, say so when you enquire and we will point you at a housing built for that.
