Then do the arithmetic before you promise a retention period. 8 MP is four times the pixel count of a 2 MP camera, and an 8 MP schedule quietly becomes a storage and bandwidth project — that conversation belongs before the NVR is quoted, not after the client asks why the recording only goes back nine days.

One more thing that belongs in the site survey rather than the datasheet: the white light is visible to the person standing in it. On a yard or a commercial rear entrance that visibility is a deterrent and clients like it. In a residential lobby, a stairwell, or anything pointing at a neighbour’s window or balcony, that same light is a complaint waiting to be filed. Walk the position at night before you commit to it.

• The recorder side: channel count, total incoming bitrate and the storage you actually have, calculated at 8 MP rather than at whatever the site runs today.

Common questions on this model

Does it record in colour at night?
Sometimes, by design. Smart Hybrid Light uses infrared for routine night coverage and switches to white light — and therefore colour — when the scene calls for it. It is not a full-time colour camera, and it is not meant to be.

Can I run a whole site on this model?
You can, but it is rarely the right call. At 8 MP the storage and bandwidth cost multiplies with every channel, and the white light is intrusive in some positions. Two or three well-chosen units usually beat a full schedule.
