Hikvision IP Video Intercom Kit DS-KIS608-P
The DS-KIS608-P is Hikvision’s PoE IP video intercom kit for a single entrance, and what it delivers at the door is a switched contact rather than a lock. Confirm what is actually being opened, a strike, a magnetic lock or an existing gate motor with a free input, before you order. Call 16454

Description
The DS-KIS608-P is Hikvision’s boxed IP video intercom kit for a single entrance — door station outside, indoor station inside, the -P marking the PoE variant of the family, so the door station is fed from the network rather than its own supply.
That is the easy half. A video intercom ends at a signal: somebody presses unlock, a contact closes for a moment, and that is the whole of what the product does at the entrance. Whatever that contact drives — a strike, a magnetic lock, a gate motor — is a separate purchase with its own supply.
Where it earns its place on a job
Decide what is being opened before pricing anything else. An electric strike is energised through the relay but needs its own supply — the intercom switches that supply, it does not provide it. A magnetic lock adds a decision nobody enjoys taking late: fail-safe releases when power is lost, which is what a fire officer wants and a security manager does not.
A gate is a different animal. A sliding or swing gate motor is not a lock but a machine with its own control board and its own idea of when it may move. The intercom does not power it; it presses the controller’s own open input, exactly as a key switch does. Say it plainly to the client: the kit does not open the gate, it presses the button that opens the gate — and the gate, the button and the power behind them are somebody’s line on the quote, usually not yours.
The check takes five minutes and almost nobody does it. Most gates already have a motor, and most controllers carry a spare dry-contact input marked OPEN, START or PED. Photograph the terminal legend on survey and you know before quoting whether the release drops onto a free pair or needs a relay board. If you are still choosing within the family, the DS-KIS610-P sits alongside this one.
Before you order — three things to confirm
- What is actually being opened — a strike on a pedestrian door, a magnetic lock, or a motorised gate. Three different bills of materials.
- What already exists to open it — the gate motor make and model, and whether its controller has a free dry-contact input, read off the legend rather than from memory.
- The lock supply and its power-cut behaviour — who provides it, and whether the lock is fail-safe or fail-secure.
Technical specifications
- Manufacturer and model: Hikvision DS-KIS608-P
- Type: IP video intercom kit, a matched door station and indoor station package
- Networking: IP — the devices run on structured cabling and the site network
- Power: PoE, which is what -P denotes here
- Door release: a switched contact at the door station, to trigger a lock circuit or a gate controller input — a switch, not a power source
- Screen size, camera specification, ratings, capacities and contact ratings are not stated here — full manufacturer datasheet available on request — call 16454
Compatibility
On the network side this is standard Hikvision IP video intercom on ordinary switching. On the door side it is brand-agnostic: a dry contact triggers a strike, a magnetic lock or a third-party gate controller of any make, provided the lock has its own supply and the gate input is volt-free.
What’s in the box
Supplied as a Hikvision retail kit whose contents vary by revision, so assume no lock, power supply, exit button, relay board or mounting box. Contents for the revision in stock are confirmed on the order.
Common questions on this model
Does this open my existing gate motor?
Usually yes — if the controller has a free dry-contact input, the release wires straight to it and behaves like a key switch. If every input is taken, add a small relay. Tell us the motor make and model and we will confirm which case you are in.
Do I still need a power supply for the lock?
Yes. The intercom switches a lock circuit, it does not feed one, so the lock needs a supply of its own.
Can one kit open both the pedestrian door and the gate?
That depends on how many independent release outputs the door station provides, which the model code does not guarantee. Describe the entrance and we will confirm from the datasheet.
