This is the same 10 W analogue pendant speaker as its white sibling, in black, and the colour is the entire reason both exist. The DS-QAZ0510G1 in black is what you specify under a dark-painted soffit, exposed black steelwork, or the deliberately blacked-out ceiling void that restaurants, bars, showrooms and cinemas use to make everything overhead disappear.

Where it earns its place on a job

Colour is treated as a footnote on most quotations and it is the detail clients actually notice. A dark ceiling void works because everything in it — ducts, trays, sprinkler pipes, lighting track — is painted out and stops registering. Hang eight white speakers in it and the eye goes straight to them, in a row, at the exact height the designer was trying to make you ignore.

The rule is simple and worth stating plainly on a quotation: match the speaker to the surface behind it, not to the walls, and not to whatever is in stock. On a mixed building that means both finishes appear on the same order, and the schedule has to say which goes where — because they arrive in identical boxes and a fitter working through a snag list at speed will not stop to check.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• The soffit finish, area by area. Buildings rarely have one ceiling treatment throughout. Confirm the finish per space and mark the colour on the speaker schedule, not just the quantity.
• The suspension height and fixing. Drop length should be consistent within a space and fixed to structure rather than to a ceiling system. Agree it before first fix.
• Who receives and sorts the delivery. If both finishes are on one order, someone has to keep them separated on site. It sounds trivial and it is the commonest cause of a rework day.

Common questions on this model

Is the black version acoustically different?
It is the same model in a different finish. If anything on the datasheet differs between the two we will tell you when we send it.

Can we paint a white one instead?
Not a good idea. Paint on a speaker grille changes how it behaves and is difficult to do neatly. Order the finish you need.

We have dark ceilings in some rooms and light in others.
