The DS-2CD1023G2-LIU is Hikvision’s 1-Series 2 MP bullet with Smart Hybrid Light — the model Egyptian integrators reach for when a job needs a lot of cameras rather than a few clever ones. The LIU suffix is the point of it: infrared while a scene is quiet, white light the moment something in that scene needs to be seen in colour.

It sits at the entry end of the hybrid-light range, which is a specification decision rather than a compromise: 1-Series exists to be deployed in quantity. So it is rarely a one-camera purchase. Twelve on a warehouse yard, thirty on a factory perimeter — at that point the recorder’s capacity and the drive behind it decide whether the design you quoted is the one you can hand over.

Where it earns its place on a site

Perimeter walls, yard fences, car park rows, loading bays and gate approaches — positions needing coverage, a record of movement and visible deterrence rather than identification at distance. The white light also does what no specification sheet captures: it tells whoever is walking the fence line that they have been seen. On a run like this the camera is the cheap part; the drive is the part the client argues about six weeks later.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Retention first, camera count second. Fix how many days of recording the client will sign off, then work backwards. Channel count, stream setting and recording hours together give a storage figure that is either comfortably inside the recorder you quoted or awkwardly outside it. • Recorder headroom, not just free channels. Spare channels on an NVR are not spare incoming bandwidth or spare drive bays. Check total input capacity and how many disks the recorder takes, because a 1-Series camera is cheap enough that someone always adds a few more late in the job.
• Recording mode, settled before the drive is bought. Continuous, event-only, or a lower continuous stream with events at full quality each give a different retention answer from the same disk. Agree it in writing first; it moves the arithmetic more than anything else.

Compatibility

A standard Hikvision IP camera: it registers to Hikvision NVRs and the usual Hikvision desktop and mobile clients. What needs checking is the recorder — firmware generation, remaining input capacity, drive bays — because that is where a large hybrid-light run runs out of room. Common questions on this model

How many of these can one recorder carry before the drive becomes the problem?
Arithmetic, not a rule of thumb, and it needs three numbers: channel count, stream setting, and days of retention required. The same twelve cameras need different storage under continuous recording than under event recording. Call 16454 and we will size it with you.

Does the white light change my storage calculation?
It can, and people forget it. A night scene lit and in colour carries more detail and more apparent movement than the same scene in flat infrared, and on a variable-bitrate stream detail costs disk. If you are budgeting a hybrid-light perimeter from an older infrared-only job, revisit those numbers.

Is 1-Series right for a whole perimeter, or should I specify up?
For coverage, deterrence and a usable record of movement across a boundary, this is what 1-Series is built for. Where one position must identify a face or a plate at distance, put a higher range there alone and leave the rest of the run on this. Mixing ranges by position is normal practice.
