The DS-2CD1027G3-LIUF/SL is the 2 MP entry point into Hikvision’s ColorVu 3.0 line: a fixed bullet on the 1-Series, the range you specify when a site needs a camera on every gate and doorway, not two expensive ones at the front. What separates it from the plain 1-Series bullet beside it is that it holds colour after dark instead of dropping to monochrome infrared.

The /SL suffix supplies the second half — active deterrence. On a detection the camera answers with a strobe and an audible alarm, so it stops being a silent witness and becomes something an intruder has to react to.

Where it earns its place on a site

Colour at night is not a picture-quality upgrade, it is an identification upgrade. Infrared tells you a man in a jacket crossed the yard at 02:14. Colour tells you the jacket was red, the van white with a green livery, the car silver — the detail an incident report or an insurer can act on. A monochrome camera gives you a timestamp; a colour camera gives you a description.

Put these where description matters: entrances and gates, loading bays, forecourts, car parks. Do not spend the money on a dark warehouse aisle nobody enters, where you only need to know that motion happened and an ordinary infrared bullet does the job for less. And be honest about the cost: colour after dark is bought with a wider aperture and, in a truly dark scene, with supplement light. There is no free version of it.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• The light already on the scene. ColorVu works from ambient light where there is some and its own supplement light where there is not. Walk the position at night and decide whether you are leaning on street lighting or on the camera itself. Specify against the datasheet’s low-light figures, not a demo.
• What is allowed to fire the strobe and alarm. Deterrence is an event output, not a permanent state. Agree which detections trigger it and whether neighbours or a night shift will tolerate it. A siren nobody wants gets switched off in week two.
• The full ordering code and the recorder behind it. Only the /SL carries the strobe and audible alarm, and the family runs several suffixes and lens options — order the complete code. Then check the NVR or VMS accepts the camera’s event linkage, or the deterrence stays stranded.

Compatibility

It is a standard Hikvision network camera and registers to Hikvision NVRs and the usual desktop and mobile clients. On a third-party recorder or VMS, confirm it can act on the detection and deterrence events, not merely stream video, or you lose half of what you paid for.

Common questions on this model

Will it give colour in a completely unlit yard?
Colour imaging is not imaging from nothing. Where there is ambient light it holds colour where an infrared camera would go monochrome; in true darkness it leans on its own supplement light, which has a working distance. Match the datasheet figures to the yard before you promise colour.

Is the strobe and siren worth it over a plain ColorVu bullet?
It is worth it where someone might turn back — gates, yards, unmanned sites out of hours. It is not worth it inside an occupied building, or where a false trigger reaches a bedroom window. Buy deterrence for the perimeter, not for every position.

Is 2 MP enough for identification?
Identification follows from pixels on the target — lens choice and distance — not the megapixel count. At normal entrance distances 2 MP is a routine specification. If the brief is reading plates on moving vehicles, that is an ANPR camera, not a general-purpose bullet.
