The DS-2CD1043G0-I is the bullet body in Hikvision’s 1-Series: 4 MP, a fixed lens, and infrared built into the housing — that is what the -I in the model code means. You specify it when the mounting point is a wall, a gate post or a pole, and when you want the unit visible from the far end of the yard.

The dome question is usually settled indoors; outdoors it is different. A dome under a soffit disappears; a bullet on a wall announces itself. On a compound perimeter, a workshop yard or a delivery gate, that visibility is half the reason the camera is on the drawing at all — the client wants drivers and visitors to know they are on camera before something happens, not after.

Where it earns its place on a site

A bullet aims like a torch. You loosen a joint, sight the view, tighten, and you are done — from a ladder, in the sun, with one hand free. A dome asks you to reach inside the bubble, rotate the gimbal, refit the cover, then discover the horizon is off. Multiply that across twenty-four positions and the difference becomes a day of labour.

The shape also survives the site better after handover. A bullet is bolted to a bracket and points where the bracket points; a knock moves the whole assembly, which anyone can see and correct. A dome nudged inside its bubble looks perfectly normal from below and quietly records the wrong wall for six months. On outdoor runs, the camera that is easy to aim is the camera that is still aimed correctly at the end of the warranty.

The honest limit is the fixed lens. The field of view is a decision made on the drawing, not on site. You cannot arrive on commissioning day and zoom in on the gate because the client has changed his mind — that choice is locked the moment you order the variant. A fixed lens is cheaper and has nothing in it to drift, but it punishes a vague site survey. Measure the distance to the subject and the width you must cover before the order goes in.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• The lens variant. This model family is offered in more than one fixed focal length. Confirm which one you are quoting against the real distance and width at the mounting point, because it cannot be changed on site.
• The mounting surface and cable route. Wall, parapet and pole each need different brackets, and pole mounting in particular is usually an extra part. Decide where the cable enters and how it is protected before the crew is on the ladder.
• The recording side. Recorder model, free channels and how the camera will be powered. Have this checked before delivery — call 16454 and we will go through it with you.

Compatibility

This is a Hikvision network camera, so its natural home is a Hikvision recorder and Hikvision’s own management software. Bullet or dome for an outdoor wall? Bullet, in most cases. Wall and pole mounting is what the bracket is built for, aiming is faster, and the visible deterrent is usually part of what the client is actually paying for.
