The DS-2CD1047G3-LIUF/SL is the 1-Series bullet you specify when the client wants the camera to act at the moment of detection, not record it for later. It is a 4 MP ColorVu 3.0 network camera in a fixed bullet housing, and the /SL suffix is why it sits above the plain model on your quotation: on a triggered event it fires a strobe and an audible alarm at whoever is in the frame.

That changes the commissioning visit. A recording camera is passive; nobody has to agree to anything before you leave site. A camera that flashes and shouts has a behaviour, and behaviour needs a schedule, a trigger rule and a named person who signed off on both. Settle it on the ladder, not in a call three weeks later.

Where it earns its place on a site

This model belongs on the boundary of a site that is busy by day and empty by night: a contractor yard, a plant compound, a loading bay, a materials store behind a factory. In working hours those areas are full of legitimate movement, so deterrence there is pure nuisance. After close they are where somebody walks in knowing nobody will challenge them, and a strobe with an audible alarm is the cheapest challenge you can install. Specify the /SL where you can draw a clean line on a clock; where you cannot, buy the recording model instead.

Deterrence is only worth buying if it stays armed, and it stays armed only if it never embarrasses anyone. Set the window and the trigger classes at commissioning and write both into the handover notes.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• The arming window: agree the exact hours in which strobe and alarm may fire, including Fridays, public holidays, Ramadan hours and any night shift. If the client cannot answer that, they are not ready for this variant.
• What may trigger it: decide whether the alarm follows human detection, vehicle detection, a line crossing or an intrusion area, then walk the scene after dark. Stray dogs, tarpaulins and passing headlights all cause false fires.
• The audible neighbour: check what sits within earshot of the mounting position. A sounder aimed at a residential wall gets disabled long before it deters anybody.

Compatibility

It is a standard Hikvision IP camera and records to Hikvision NVRs and to third-party platforms supporting the manufacturer’s protocols. The part to check is not the video, it is the deterrence: confirm the recorder or VMS on site exposes scheduling and linkage for strobe and alarm, or plan to set that in the camera’s own web interface instead. Check cabling, power method and channel licensing at the same time.

Common questions on this model

Can we switch the strobe and siren off during trading hours and keep recording?
Yes, and that is the normal way to run it. Recording and detection sit separately from the deterrence output, so the camera records all day while strobe and alarm are armed only inside the window you set. Decide that window at commissioning rather than leaving defaults.

Is the /SL worth it over the plain bullet in the same housing?
Only where somebody will maintain the schedule. On an unmanned yard it repays the difference on the first incident it ends before it starts. Where nobody owns the settings, it gets switched off and you have paid extra for a plain camera.

The client is complaining about false alarms at night — what do we change?
Tighten the trigger rather than disarming the camera. Pull the detection area back from the road or the neighbouring plot, restrict the linkage to the classification that matters there, and re-test after dark. Disarming is the last resort, and the point where trust goes.
