Wide unlit scenes that must stay in colour — a compound wall, a yard, a dealership forecourt — where the evidence that matters is the colour of a jacket or a vehicle. Sites where the point is prevention, not prosecution: the strobe and siren interrupt an intrusion while it is still trespass. And wide views where 6 MP buys scene width, one camera covering a frontage that would take two.

Buy the extra megapixels for the width of the scene, not for the distance to the face — beyond a certain range it is the light, not the sensor, that decides whether your footage is evidence or just a recording.

Where a cheaper 4 MP performs identically: tight scenes. A doorway, a gate covered from a few metres, a till point. At those distances 4 MP already puts more pixels on a face than any identification standard asks for. The same holds when the target sits beyond the supplement light with nothing behind it — the limit is the noise floor, not the pixel count. And if retention forces reduced frame rate, a 4 MP recorded properly beats a 6 MP recorded badly.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Lens and coverage. Check the lens option on your order line against the width you need at the working distance. It cannot be corrected once the camera is on the pole.
• Who answers the alarm. The /SL strobe and audible alarm are only an asset if something responds. Confirm the arming schedule, and that a siren at night suits that boundary — residential neighbours are where it draws complaints.
• Recorder headroom. Confirm the NVR takes this channel at full resolution alongside everything already on it and still meets the retention period. Older recorders are the usual constraint, not the camera.

Common questions on this model

Will 6 MP identify faces further down the driveway than 4 MP would?
Only while the light holds. In daylight, or a lit scene at night, the extra resolution genuinely extends the range at which a face is identifiable. Unlit, both run out of light at the same point.

Does the strobe and siren need a separate alarm box?
No — the /SL deterrence is built into the camera. What needs planning is the trigger logic and schedule: what fires it, at what hours, and whether the camera or the recorder owns the rule.

Can I mix this with 4 MP cameras on the same recorder?
Yes, and on most sites that is the sensible specification: 6 MP on open approaches, 4 MP on doors and gates. Check total channel capacity first.
