Twenty-four PoE ports, four fibre uplinks, and a login page. The Hikvision DS-3E1528P-SI-24P4F goes in where a camera job stops being a wiring exercise and becomes a network — the building where you are no longer pulling cable back to a recorder, you are handing a segment up to a core. The SI in the model code matters commercially: this is a smart, web-managed switch that can be logged into and configured, not a sealed unmanaged box that tells you nothing when a link starts flapping at two in the morning.

The four gigabit fibre (SFP) uplinks are the other half of the argument. Copper stops at a hundred metres and it stops badly. On a compound, a factory or a two-block school the recorder is rarely in the same building as the cameras, and fibre removes that distance problem along with the earthing and surge headaches of copper between structures. The uplinks, more than the port count, are what put this model on a quote instead of a cheaper twenty-four-port unit.

Where it earns its place on a job

Specify it as an aggregation point, not a bigger desk switch: the site where cameras land on one cabinet and the recording lives elsewhere — a warehouse yard feeding an office block, or a plant where each building has its own rack and one fibre pair between them. Port count is the number the client reads; the PoE budget is the number that decides the job. A twenty-four-port switch whose power runs out at camera seventeen is a sixteen-port switch with eight decorative holes.

That sum is on you, not on the box. Fixed turrets are modest; PTZ domes, heated housings and long-range illuminators are not, and one PTZ can draw what several fixed cameras draw between them. Total the real load for the models you are quoting and leave headroom for the positions added after handover.

Before you order

• Total PoE budget against your actual load. Sum the draw of every device you intend to power and check it against the switch’s rated budget — not against twenty-four. Call 16454 with your camera list and we will check it against the datasheet with you.
• Whether you need the uplinks, and which modules. SFP transceivers and fibre patch leads are a separate purchase. You need the run length, single-mode or multi-mode, and what sits at the far end.
• Rack space and power at the cabinet. Confirm free U space in a 19-inch rack, a clean mains feed, and a UPS sized for the switch plus everything it powers — on an undersized UPS it takes the cameras down with it.
