The DS-2CD1347G2H-LIUF/SL is a 4 MP turret from Hikvision’s 1-Series network range, and it is rarely bought one at a time — it fills the ordinary positions on a drawing. LIUF makes it a ColorVu hybrid light model, so the position holds colour after dark rather than dropping to grey; /SL adds active deterrence, a strobe and an audible alarm on detection.

That pairing is also why so many handovers turn into arguments. A camera that flashes and speaks is only an asset if someone decided, in advance and in writing, which positions should do it.

Where it earns its place on a site

A quotation that says “eight cameras” is not a specification. It is a count. It says nothing about whether the unit at the gate is there to detect that someone entered the yard, recognise a driver already known to you, or identify a stranger well enough for a report — and those three purposes want different heights, distances and often different models.

The document that closes the gap is a camera schedule, priced row by row. Each row records the location in plain words, the purpose (detect, recognise or identify), mounting height, direction, the width of scene it must cover, the recorder channel and the power source. Agree the schedule before the delivery note, because once the boxes are open the conversation stops being about design and becomes about blame. This model needs one more column: which rows are deterrent rows. A strobe over a loading bay staff cross all shift gets switched off in a week; on a boundary nobody should approach, it is the point.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• The schedule, signed. Positions, purposes, heights, channels and deterrent rows, agreed with whoever is paying. It costs an hour and it is what settles a handover dispute.
• Coverage against the row, not the room. The camera that identifies a face at a doorway will only detect movement across a yard. Send the distance and width each row covers and we will check the supplied lens variant against the datasheet.
• Channels, ports and power. Count the recorder channels and switch ports you actually have free, and confirm the PoE budget and cable runs. Adding cameras to a full rack is a second order.

Compatibility

It is a standard Hikvision IP camera on a Hikvision NVR, configured through Hik-Connect or iVMS-4200. The deterrence is not automatic: detection rules, armed hours and the strobe and audio response are set per camera at commissioning. For a third-party VMS, send the platform and version.

What do you need from us to quote a multi-camera job properly?
A row per position, not a total. For each: where it is, what it is for (detect, recognise or identify), mounting height and surface, the distance and width of the scene, the cable run to the rack, and whether it is a deterrent row. Then the head end — recorder model, free channels, switch and PoE.

Will the strobe and alarm go off every time a car passes?
Only if it is set up that way. The detection rules, the area watched and the hours armed are configured on the camera, so a deterrent row normally works to a timetable rather than around the clock. Fix those hours during design.

Should every position be an /SL model?
No, and quoting it that way is a mistake. Deterrence works where nobody is supposed to be; on corridors, tills and reception it produces complaints. Put /SL on the boundary rows and the plain DS-2CD1347G2H-LIU on rows that only watch and record — same family, same 4 MP class, no strobe.
