Ask before quoting: who owns the list, does a change need an engineer or can a trained caretaker do it, and what does each one cost. An intercom directory is a maintenance contract wearing the costume of a hardware purchase. Before you order — three things to confirm

• Who maintains the directory. Agree in writing at handover who updates resident names, by what method, and whether that is covered by a service agreement or billed per visit.

• Household count. Confirm how many households this entrance must call, today and once the top floor is finished, then quote against that.

Common questions on this model

Who updates the resident names when a tenant changes, and is it chargeable?
Whoever holds administrator access to the configuration — your installer, or someone at the building trained and given credentials. If that was never arranged it defaults to the installer, and the visit is chargeable like any callout. Settle it at handover: either the building does it itself, or you agree a rate in advance.

Does a name change need someone at the panel?
Treat it as two jobs: the entry in the configuration, and the printed labelling a visitor actually reads at the door. Even where the configuration needs no visit, the strip does.

What if the installer who configured it moves on?
The list ends up frozen behind credentials nobody at the building holds, and the usual outcome is a reset and full reconfiguration at the client’s cost. Have the credentials and saved configuration handed over in writing at completion.
