Hikvision KD8 Series Modular Door Station DS-KD8003-IME1

The DS-KD8003-IME1 is the main module of a Hikvision KD8-series door station, and it is where a specifier starts. On a building job that is rarely a product decision. It is the outcome of a survey about doors and people: how many entrances the building really has, how many apartments sit behind each one, and who answers when a visitor presses a button at nine at night.

The KD8 range is modular: a panel is a main module plus whatever further modules the building needs beside it. The count, not the catalogue, is the problem. Specify from the count and the modules follow; specify from the catalogue and you will be back on site with the wrong panel on the wrong wall.

Where it earns its place on a job

Count the entrances on foot, not off the drawing. On paper a residential block has one way in. In use it has the main lobby, the garage ramp, and the back gate residents use because it comes out nearer the car park. That third one is missed on nearly every job and is usually the busiest after six. Each entrance is either a panel or a deliberate decision not to put one there.

Then count residents per entrance and settle the calling model. Does a visitor call a flat directly, so the panel must address every apartment behind that door, or does the visitor reach a concierge, moving the complexity to the desk? Ask the developer whether a later phase is coming. Then decide where the panel sits: sheltered, lit well enough at night that a face reads clearly on the indoor monitor, at a reachable height, and in view of a camera.

A panel is a hole cut in a wall with a back box behind it, and that hole is fixed at first fix, months before anyone orders the electronics. Get it wrong and you do not have a supply problem, you have a building works problem.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• The entrances nobody counted. Walk the perimeter with the building manager and list every door residents actually use, service and garage routes included. Agree which of them get a panel before you price anything.
• Apartments and calling model per entrance. Confirm how many dwellings sit behind each entrance and whether visitors call flats directly or call a concierge. That changes what goes beside the main module.
• Back box position and first-fix dates. Agree position, height and back box detail with the main contractor, and find out when first fix reaches that entrance. That date, not your delivery date, is the deadline.

Compatibility

It belongs in a Hikvision video intercom system with Hikvision indoor stations and the platform software. Common questions on this model

The developer may add another block next year. Can we extend the panel later?
Plan for it now. Adding apartments usually means adding modules, and that means a larger back box and a larger opening in the wall. Agree the back box for the eventual count at first fix, even if you populate it in stages.

Do we need one at every entrance, or one for the whole building?
One per entrance residents and visitors actually use. A single panel at the lobby leaves the garage ramp and the back gate unmanaged, and those are the doors people prop open.

Can we order the main module now and decide the rest later?
You can, but it is the wrong order of work. This module is the same whichever way the survey lands; what sits beside it is not, and the back box is decided by the total. Settle the count first.
