An access log tells you a credential was used; only the camera tells you who used it, and if nobody planned for the pair at commissioning you find that out during the argument rather than before it.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Camera on the approach side — check the survey photograph, not the floor plan. You want a lens that sees the face on the walk up to the reader, not the back of a head going through an opening leaf. If none does, budget a second camera now.
• One clock for both systems — confirm the terminal and whatever records the video take time from the same source, and that someone owns re-checking it after handover. An event log and footage that disagree by ninety seconds are worth very little in a meeting.
• Who may pull the pair — agree in writing, while the integrator is on site, who may retrieve a log line with its matching footage and on what grounds, and settle the licensing that makes that retrieval practical.

Common questions on this model

Does the terminal’s own face capture remove the need for a camera on that door?
No, and treating it that way is the commonest design mistake we see. The terminal captures in order to grant or refuse access, from one position at one moment. An investigation needs the seconds either side: who was waiting, who followed through, what was carried out.

How do we make the log line and the footage line up?
Point both at the same time source at commissioning and record which source in the handover pack. Agree retention too: an event log that outlives the footage leaves a timestamp with nothing to show.

Can we see the door event and the clip on one screen?
