Where it fits

Every conversation about a controlled door concerns who may come in. The requirement that carries legal weight is the opposite one: everyone inside must get out — when the terminal is dead and the building is dark. A face terminal decides who comes in; the fire strategy decides who gets out, and only one of those two is negotiable.

Three things follow, and none is a property of this terminal. A door on an escape route must release on the fire alarm and on loss of power — a fail-safe decision belonging to whoever holds the building’s fire strategy, not the installer and not the client’s IT manager. The mechanical emergency release on the inside — the lever or bar that opens the leaf with no power — is not optional decoration. And a green break-glass unit is a life-safety device: it must drop the lock directly, in the lock’s own power path, never as a software input the controller decides about.

• The lock, and which way it fails. This is a reader, not a locking device. Send us the leaf and frame type and the fail direction the strategy calls for, and we will quote the lock, supply and release to suit.

Compatibility

Three separate questions, because they fail separately: the terminal must talk to the platform the site runs; it must drive your chosen lock at that lock’s voltage and current; and it must sit correctly alongside the fire alarm interface and break-glass unit, which is wiring, not software.

What happens to this door if the power fails?
