The DS-D5C86RB/B2L is Hikvision’s 86-inch 4K interactive panel, usually bought for one room: the largest meeting room in the building. What has changed about that room is who is in it. A panel this size now spends most of its week showing people who dialled in rather than slides.

That changes what has to be specified around it. If half the room is not in the room, the panel is a quarter of the installation. A camera has to frame the whole table rather than the nearest face, microphones have to reach the far end, and speakers have to carry the remote voice without echoing back into those microphones. Ask anyone who sits through hybrid meetings which failure makes them give up: it is never the picture. People will squint at a soft slide for an hour and say nothing; they drop off a call in five minutes if the room sounds like a corridor. A meeting room is judged by the experience of the person who is not in it, and that person cannot see your panel, only hear your room.

The display, the camera, the microphones and whatever runs the call should be chosen together and their cables drawn together, while you can still cut a chase and pull a run under the table. Common questions on this model

Do we need anything besides the screen?
It depends on what the room does, and the honest answer is often yes. If the room only shows slides from a visiting laptop, the panel and a cable are enough. If it hosts calls, it also needs a camera covering the table, microphones that hear the far seats and speakers the remote side can be heard through — budget those separately unless the datasheet says otherwise.

We have a soundbar under the old television. Can we move it across?
You can, and in a small room it may be fine. In a room big enough to justify 86 inches it usually is not, because the problem is rarely loudness but reverberation: the far end of the table reaches the call as a distant echo. Make a test call from the empty room and listen back.

Is the touch layer worth anything if we mostly present?
In a hybrid meeting it earns more than in a face-to-face one. When you annotate on the panel, remote participants see the mark appear on the shared screen as the room does, which removes the worst habit in hybrid meetings: someone pointing at a wall half the audience cannot see.
