Before you order — three things to confirm

• The stream count at the busiest moment. Not the camera count. Add the recording stream from every camera, every live view likely to be open at once, and the playback running alongside them. That total is what crosses the uplink, and what we check the datasheet against.
• What sits at the far end. An uplink is an agreement between two devices. Confirm what the recorder or core switch presents on the port this link terminates in, speed and media both, so both ends are specified together, not reconciled on site.

How do I know if the uplink is enough?
Total everything crossing the link at once at peak — recording, live viewing and playback together — and compare it against what the datasheet gives the uplink, with margin rather than an exact fit. On an installed system the symptom follows load rather than a camera: playback that stalls when the control room is busy and behaves at night. Send your camera count and stream settings to 16454.

The recorder is in the same rack. Does the uplink still matter?
Yes. What makes a link an uplink is that everything below converges on it, not its length. A one-metre patch lead to the recorder carries the same summed traffic a long run would.

We are adding cameras to a switch already installed. Do we revisit the uplink?
