The Hikvision DS-7604NXI-K1/4P is a four-channel AcuSense recorder with the switch already inside it: four built-in PoE ports, one drive bay, 4K, nothing else to mount. On a flat, a small shop or a single-surgery clinic that is the neatest answer available: one box in the cupboard, not a recorder plus a switch.

The options are a switch standing beside the recorder — the extra box this unit was chosen to avoid — or a bigger recorder, meaning you pull out a working one and re-commission. A port you cannot add later is a decision you make once, so buy the all-in-one when four is a final number, and something larger when four is only the number for now.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Is four a final number or a starting number? Ask the client where the next camera would go if there were one. If they can answer, four is a starting number and this is the wrong box.
• Where the recorder sits decides every cable run. Power leaves from the recorder, so all four runs terminate at it and there is no mid-building switch position to shorten the awkward one. Fix its location against all four positions first.
• Specify the drive against the retention promised. One bay, and the drive is chosen to the recording days you have quoted at your camera resolutions. Send us the retention target and camera models and we will confirm what it supports.

Compatibility

Common questions on this model

What do we actually do when the client wants a fifth camera?
Two options, both costly. Either a switch and a second small recorder go in beside this one, leaving the client searching two head ends for one incident, or this unit is replaced with an eight-port model such as the DS-7608NXI-K2/8P and the four leads move across. Cameras and cabling survive either way; the recorder does not.

If the recorder loses power, do the cameras stay up?
No. The cameras draw power from the recorder, so the two rise and fall together. That simplifies the UPS conversation — one thing to protect rather than two — but size it for the recorder and the camera load together.

Can the client reach a camera’s own web page from the office network?
Not by default. Cameras on the built-in ports sit behind the recorder rather than on the building network, and viewing is through the recorder. If a browser on the office LAN or a third-party system must reach a camera directly, design that in rather than add it later. Call 16454 with the topology before cabling.
