The Hikvision DS-QAZ1206G1-BE is a 6 W network ceiling speaker that flush-mounts into a suspended ceiling and takes both its audio and its power from one Cat 6 drop back to a PoE switch. No amplifier, no 100 V line, no speaker cable looping tile to tile — it is an addressable device on the same LAN as the cameras, commissioned like a camera: by IP address, in software.

That distinction is the reason to specify it. An analogue PA speaker is a passive load on an amplifier channel: whatever the channel plays, every speaker on it plays. A network speaker holds its own identity. Group three into one corridor zone, leave the manager’s office out of the general announcement, change your mind about both next month — without touching a ceiling tile. Zoning stops being a cabling job and becomes a configuration job.

Where it earns its place on a job

This is a suspended-ceiling product for buildings broken into many small zones: office floors and corridors, clinic waiting and consulting rooms, school classrooms, retail units inside a mall, hotel back-of-house. Anywhere a department, a tenant or a floor must be addressed on its own rather than as part of one building-wide broadcast.

Be straight with the client about where it does not win. Over one large open hall under a single uniform announcement, a 100 V line on a conventional amplifier is cheaper per point and stays cheaper. IP audio earns its money in two cases: the zones are many and small, or the announcement has to follow an event — a door forced, a line crossed by a camera analytic, an input from the panel — and land in one area with no operator in the loop. The second is the one analogue cannot do tidily at any price. And being PoE, budget for it as you budget a camera: a switch port and a slice of the switch’s power headroom.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Zone plan, then ceiling detail. Fix how many speakers each zone needs before you count units — quantity follows the zone map, not the floor area. Then check the ceiling void depth and the cut-out the tile will take against the manufacturer datasheet; a shallow void or a plasterboard soffit changes the install.
• PoE budget across the whole switch. Add the speakers to the cameras already on that switch, not a separate column. A switch sized for its camera load with nothing spare will drop devices the day the speakers come up. Confirm this model’s required PoE type on the datasheet before you specify the switch.
• What actually drives the announcements. Scheduled bells, live paging from a desk microphone, or triggers out of the VMS — each implies a different head-end, licensing and commissioning time. Settle it at design stage, because that is where the cost sits, not in the speaker.
