The DS-K1T343MFX is a Value series face access terminal from Hikvision — the tier specified when a site wants a face-reading terminal on the door without paying for the Pro series. That last phrase is where these projects go wrong. Access control and time-and-attendance are two different products that happen to share a box. Before punches become payroll, the client must have decided whose shift pattern is whose — employee by employee, not “the day shift” — what counts as late and how much grace comes first, whether breaks are deducted or clocked, when extra minutes become authorised overtime and who authorises them, which absence categories exist, and who approves the exception when someone forgets to clock out. Then the question deciding the rest: which system pays people, and in what format.

A face terminal is an honest witness with no opinion: it will tell you a man stood at the door at 07:12, and nothing about whether he was late. Turning those times into a payslip is a software and policy job, bought and owned separately from the wall.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Payroll scope and rule ownership. Is attendance in scope here, or only door control? If it is, name the person on the client side who owns the shift rules, lateness tolerance and exception approvals, and name the system that pays staff.
• Credential mix and enrolment. Decide which credentials the site runs on and how many people must be enrolled, confirm from the datasheet that this revision covers them, and budget the hours needed to enrol everyone.
• Door hardware and network. The terminal decides; something else releases the door. Confirm the lock type and its fail-safe or fail-secure behaviour against the fire strategy, power, the exit and emergency release devices, and the network drop.

Plan two layers. The terminal talks to a Hikvision management platform, and that is where users, doors and shift rules live; confirm the platform and version supporting this model before you commit. Payroll is the second layer and rarely plug-and-play: assume an export plus a mapping between employee IDs and payroll numbers. Common questions

Will the DS-K1T343MFX give me a payroll-ready attendance report on its own?
No. It produces identified events with timestamps. Shifts, grace, break deduction, overtime approval and the payroll export live in software configured with the client’s rules.

Can we use it for attendance only, with no lock wired to it?
Yes, and it is common — mount, power and network it, then treat it as a clocking point. Skipping door hardware saves cabling, not policy work.

We are replacing an old fingerprint clock. Does anything carry over?
Employee records and card numbers can usually be migrated, but faces cannot: every user must be enrolled again in person. Schedule that as its own activity, not something squeezed into commissioning day.
