Hikvision Value Series Face Access Terminal DS-K1T343MWX

The DS-K1T343MWX is a Value Series face access terminal from Hikvision, and on most jobs it lands in the same position: one staff door, or a factory gate where the previous system was a paper logbook and a guard who recognised everybody. It does two things at once — it decides whether the door opens, and it records who came through. The second is usually what the client is really buying.

That second point is worth pausing on before you quote. The moment you enrol the first face, your client is holding biometric records of their own staff, on the terminal and in whatever software manages it. That is not an argument against face recognition. It is an argument for a short, unglamorous conversation at survey stage, because the installers who have it get far fewer awkward calls later.

Where it fits

This terminal earns its keep where credentials keep going missing or buddy clock-in has become a running joke. It is also the only device most installers hang on a wall that turns the client into the custodian of personal data about their own staff, and the wiring is the easy half of that install. Staff should be told what is held and why; there should be a stated answer to what happens to my record when I leave; and somebody named should control access to the terminal and the software behind it. If the client cannot answer those three questions, a card-based door is the better fit even though it is less impressive, and a reader such as the Hikvision DS-K1102AMK card reader runs attendance perfectly well on a credential that can simply be handed back on the last day.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• A written position on staff records before enrolment. Agree with the client, in writing and before anybody is enrolled, what is held, why, who may see it, and how a record is removed when a person leaves. One paragraph in the site file is enough, and far easier written first than retrofitted.
• Who owns the administrator access. The records live on the hardware and in the software, and both need a named owner on the client’s side who takes the credentials at handover — not your engineering login as the only route in.
• What actually opens the door. The terminal makes the decision; the lock, its power, the exit arrangement and the fire and power-failure behaviour are separate items to specify and price before the order goes in.

Compatibility

This is a Hikvision access terminal, meant to be managed through Hikvision’s own access control software rather than configured device by device. Check the software and version the client runs against the current datasheet before committing to a head-end. That software is the second place the staff records live, so it needs the same controlled access and the same leaver process as the unit on the wall.

Common questions

What if an employee refuses to enrol their face?
Then a fallback credential has to exist. Decide at survey stage how a non-enrolled member of staff gets through the door and is counted for attendance, and make sure the client has that answer before enrolment day.

Who deletes a leaver’s record, and from where?
Someone on the client’s side, in both places — the terminal and the software. Put it on the offboarding checklist beside collecting the office keys, and write it into the handover documentation so it outlives whoever does it today.
