The DS-KH6320-WTE1 is a KH6-series indoor station that talks IP, and on a retrofit that one word decides the job. Most intercom work in Egypt is not a new tower. On a retrofit there are three honest routes and the survey decides which you are on. Pull new cable through an existing riser or conduit where there is space and a draw wire, the cheapest outcome and the one everyone hopes for. Run it surface in trunking up the stair core where there is not, uglier but predictable and disturbing nobody’s flat. Or keep the existing pair with converter hardware between it and the IP side, viable in some buildings and a false economy in others. You are not really buying an indoor station, you are buying whatever it costs to get a network to the flat door, and the station is the cheap part. Quoting without opening a riser is guessing.

Before you order — three things to confirm

• Riser survey before pricing — count the spare ways, look for a draw wire, and follow one flat’s route from the landing to where the old unit sat. A spare conduit existing or not can be most of the cost.
• Door station and architecture — confirm the Hikvision door station, switch and addressing scheme the building is going onto, and that both ends pair cleanly.
• Back box and powering — check whether this station lands on the old mounting, and take the powering method from the current datasheet, not the last model you fitted.

Common questions on this model

Can it run on our existing two-wire cable?
Sometimes, with the right converter hardware between the old pair and the IP side, and never directly. It depends on what that pair is, the run length, the joints in it and the state of the riser. We will not say yes on the phone. Send photographs of the riser and one flat’s cable, or let us survey the building.

What usually delays a building retrofit?
Access. Cable work in the common areas runs to plan; getting into occupied flats does not. Agree with the committee which days flats are open and who holds keys for empty ones.

Can we do the building in phases?
Yes, and it is often how these get paid for. Do the backbone first — riser cable, switch position, door station — then add flats as residents commit. Size it for the whole building at the start.
