Face Recognition Terminals
Face recognition terminals authorise people at a door or gate and log who passed and when. The reader is the easy part. What gets chosen wrong is everything behind it — who keeps the enrolled list, and what the doorway itself needs.
How to choose
- Name the administrator first. These terminals are bought against the enrolment workload, not the reader specification. Ask who enrols Monday’s new starter and who removes a leaver the same afternoon, with a deputy for leave. A site with no answer is not ready for the door.
- Standalone or platform-managed. Five standalone doors become five separate user lists, each updated by hand. If the site has more than one controlled entrance, or already runs Hikvision access software or controllers, send those model numbers so we can confirm the terminal enrols onto the same list.
- Mounting height and what the entrance faces. An entrance behind afternoon glass, with the sun behind whoever stands at it, is a different problem from an interior lobby. Traffic at shift change and the size of the enrolled population belong in the same answer; together they decide the tier.
- Price the doorway, not the terminal. The lock, its power supply and the exit device are separate line items, and fail-safe or fail-secure is the client’s written decision, taken against the building’s fire strategy.
